A few announcements:
First, notice the new banner at the top of the page, courtesy of award-winning artist Jeff Wong (Damn Near Dead 2 and The Archer Files)! Jeff is one of my favorite artists, and I’m happy to say a very dear friend, as well. I’m thrilled that he was willing to be a part of FIRES ON THE PLAIN.
Second, FIRES ON THE PLAIN officially launches this Friday, February 24th with a new short story by Jake Hinkson, an acclaimed film historian and novelist. Hinkson’s debut novel, Hell on Church Street, was published by New Pulp Press earlier this year, and it’s a knockout! It’s Ozark Noir to the extreme, like a nightmarish mash-up of The Night of the Hunter and Jim Thompson’s Pop. 1280. Not for the faint of heart, but if you revel in the dark depths of Noir, then Hell on Church Street is a place you definitely want to visit. Hinkson brings the same dark vibe to his frontier story, and I’m thrilled to be able to publish here at FIRES ON THE PLAIN.
And finally, look out for a new story at FIRES ON THE PLAIN every Friday!
The zine hasn’t even officially launched and already there has been so much support from the literary community. To everyone who has submitted stories, spread the word, tweeted or blogged the site, or expressed their encouragement, FIRES ON THE PLAIN thanks you!
